While for some, larger breasts seem appealing, and many women invest in breast augmentation surgery to obtain a larger bust, the reality is that larger breasts can be the cause of a lot of pain and suffering. Shoulder and back pain, neck pain, and an altered posture can all be a direct result of larger breasts. Dr. Adrian Sjarif understands that a breast reduction procedure can help to alleviate many of these symptoms, and other related concerns.
Why would some women want a breast reduction?
Large breasts place strain on the back and neck muscles due to their excessive weight. A woman may find that her posture also suffers. Additionally, having large breasts can make sizing bras difficult and purchasing clothes off the rack impossible due to their disproportionate size. In severe cases, women may also suffer from chafing and rashes underneath the breasts which can lead to infections.
Reducing the size of the breasts can help alleviate all these symptoms, and help to boost a woman’s self-confidence and overall well-being.
What should I expect during the procedure?
Dr. Sjarif makes having a breast reduction a very simple procedure. With his expert techniques, scarring and discomfort will be kept to a minimum. Most breast reduction procedures require an overnight stay in hospital, but can occasionally be performed on an outpatient basis so that you can return home and recover in the comfort of your home.
On the day of the procedure, Dr. Sjarif will start by taking some time to mark out on your breasts the planned breast reduction pattern. You will then be placed under general anaesthesia by one of Dr Sjarif’s accredited anaesthetic doctors. He will then make the incisions in the breast to remove the targeted extra tissue. The incisions are placed in areas around the areola and within the fold under the breast to hide the scars as much as possible. Liposuction may also be performed to remove extra tissue in an effort to again reduce visible scarring. Once excess tissue has been removed, he will adjust the nipple position, and redrape the breast skin to create a firmer and more youthful appearing breast. Incisions are then closed using dissolving sutures. Surgical drains are generally not required. The breasts will then be dressed in bandages which will be removed in 24 hours when you will then be placed in a soft surgical bra.
Once the bandages are removed, you will be able to shower straight away. All the sutures are dissolving and so do not require removal. It is very important that you follow your post-operative instructions so that your incision sites heal rapidly with minimal scarring. He will monitor your progress during the following months to ensure the breasts heal optimally.
