Breast Lift Surgery - Mastopexy

Elevate Fallen Breasts with Breast Lift Surgery in Wollongong or Bowral

Gravity along with the changes brought about following pregnancy, breastfeeding and the aging process can cause the breasts to drop so that they sit more on the abdomen and less on the chest. These changes can have an affect on how women perceive themselves, and in some cases can have an effect on self-confidence. Dr Adrian Sjarif performs breast lift surgery (mastopexy) for women to help address these concerns, restoring them to their previous shape and position.

Could I Benefit from a Breast Lift?

You could benefit from breast lift surgery if you:

  • Are bothered by sagging, droopy or deflated flat breasts
  • The volume of the breast has redistributed itself from the upper portion to the lower portion
  • Feel embarrassed or uncomfortable in intimate situations.

Many breast lift candidates are mothers whose breasts “deflated” and started sagging after breastfeeding. Other candidates are women whose breasts have been affected by the aging process or fluctuations in weight, or women who have always had saggy breasts (perhaps due to genetic factors). Dr. Sjarif can help patients enjoy perkier, more youthful looking breasts with a breast lift.

Surgical Details

Breast lift Surgery (Mastopexy) can be performed on its own, but as with other cosmetic surgery procedures, many women choose to combine it with breast augmentation and the placement of silicone breast implants to enhance the size, shape and position of the breasts. Oftentimes a breast lift is part of a complete mummy makeover that rejuvenates the breasts and abdomen at the same time.

Your breast lift will be performed on an outpatient basis at a local hospital or day surgery facility in Wollongong or Bowral. General anaesthesia will be administered for your comfort and safety.

Dr. Sjarif will begin by creating the surgical incisions in the pre-determined location on the breasts. There are three common incision patterns:

  • around the areola (sometimes called the “doughnut” pattern)
  • around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease (the “lollipop” pattern)
  • around the edge of the areola, vertically down to the breast crease and horizontally along the crease in the inframammary fold (the “anchor” pattern)

Through the incisions, Dr. Sjarif will lift and reshape the breast tissue higher on the chest wall and reposition the nipple-areolar complex higher on the breast mound. He can reduce the size of the areolas, if needed. Dr. Sjarif will remove excess skin and wrap the remaining skin tighter around the breast mound. Finally, he will close the incisions with sutures.

Recovering from Breast Lift Surgery

Your breasts will be swollen, bruised and tender after surgery, with the majority of the symptoms improving within a few days. You will be asked to wear a special support bra for about two weeks, which puts slight compression on the breasts as they heal.

You should take about seven to 10 days off from work to recover and should avoid strenuous exercise for up to eight weeks. Dr. Sjarif will see you for follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress and clear you to return to your normal activities. Most patients see their final results within a few months of surgery.
