Enhance Facial Harmony with Nose Reshaping
The nose is an area of concern for people of all ages. An oversized, crooked or otherwise imperfect nose can draw attention away from an attractive face and cause embarrassment or humiliation.
Everyone deserves to have a nose that “fits” their face and makes them feel confident. People seeking nose reshaping surgery, a.k.a., rhinoplasty, in Sydney or Wollongong can come to see Dr. Adrian Sjarif. The talented plastic surgeon relies on his eye for artistry and carefully refined technical skills to produce results that look beautiful and natural. An expertly performed rhinoplasty can be a life changing procedure.
Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you are bothered by any of the following:
- A nose that is too big or too small for your face
- A crooked or asymmetrical nose
- A bump or depression on the bridge of your nose
- A nasal tip that is upturned, drooping or bulbous
- A blockage inside your nose that affects your breathing
It’s important to sit down with Dr. Sjarif to discuss your specific concerns and goals and allow him to examine your nose. He can determine whether rhinoplasty can give you the results you desire, and together you can set concrete and reasonable expectations for surgery.
Rhinoplasty Surgery Details
Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis with general anaesthesia. Dr. Sjarif will recommend either the open or closed approach, depending on your particular goals of surgery and preferences. The open approach is performed through incisions created on the outside of the nose, including the columella, or the strip of skin separating the nostrils. The open approach offers better visibility of the internal structures of the nose, but it may leave a very small scar across the columella. Closed rhinoplasty is performed through incisions created inside the nasal passages. There is no noticeable scarring after closed rhinoplasty.
Through the incisions, Dr. Sjarif will reshape your nose structure(s). This may involve removing bone or cartilage to reduce an overly large nose, or adding a graft of cartilage from the septum or ear to build up the nose. If a deviated septum is causing you to experience impaired breathing, Dr. Sjarif can straighten it to correct the problem. He will make other modifications as needed to improve the shape, size, symmetry and features of your nose.
Recovering from Rhinoplasty
After surgery, your nose will be swollen and bruised under the surgical dressings. It may feel tender, sensitive or even numb. Dr. Sjarif will provide detailed instructions for taking medications and caring for the surgical site as it heals. He will schedule follow-up appointments to check your healing progress and remove splints or bandages.
Most of the swelling should subside within two weeks, and it can take up to a year for the swelling to fully disappear. Your results should be apparent almost immediately after surgery, and continue to stabilize as the swelling goes down.
