Rejuvenate Your Eye Appearance with Eyelid Surgery
Do you feel as though your eyes don’t reflect your youthful spirit and energy anymore? Is excess sagging skin or displaced fat giving your eyelids a tired, sad or aged appearance?
A great solution for your anti-aging needs is blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) in Wollongong or Bowral with Dr. Adrian Sjarif. By removing excess eyelid skin and fat, tightening the muscles and smoothing lines and wrinkles around the eyes, Dr. Sjarif can rejuvenate your eyes’ appearance — without noticeable or conspicuous scarring.
Would I Benefit from Eyelid Surgery?
You might benefit from eyelid surgery if you are bothered by any of the following:
- Loose or sagging skin on your upper eyelid that can make it difficult to apply eye makeup, and may droop over the lash line and obstruct your line of sight
- Puffy fat deposits or “bags” underneath your eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids
- Fine wrinkles below your eyelids
If you desire more comprehensive anti-aging results and improvement in other areas of the face, Dr. Sjarif may recommend combining eyelid surgery with another facial plastic surgery procedure, such as brow lift or facelift.
Surgical Details
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed with anesthesia. Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used, depending on the extent of your procedure, your personal preference and the doctor’s recommendation.
Your surgical procedure will be targeted to your specific areas of concern. If Dr. Sjarif is treating your upper eyelids, he will begin by creating the surgical incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids. Through the incisions, he will carefully reposition fat as needed, tighten the eyelid muscles and trim excess fat and skin to give the eyelids a flatter and firmer contour. Dr. Sjarif can trim any skin that hangs over your upper lash line into your line of sight.
If Dr. Sjarif is treating your lower eyelids, he will create an incision just below your lower lash line or on the inside of your eyelid. Through the incision, he will reposition displaced fat to minimize puffiness or undereye bags, and prevent the eyes from having a “hollowed out” appearance. He can also tighten the muscles and trim excess skin as needed. Tiny sutures are used to close the incisions.
Recovering from Eyelid Surgery
After eyelid surgery, your eye and cheek area will be slightly bruised and swollen for one to two weeks. The side effects will gradually subside. Any discomfort can be alleviated with pain medication as prescribed by Dr. Sjarif. He will clear you to return to work, exercise and the rest of your normal activities when he is satisfied with your healing progress.
You should be able to see improvement about two weeks after surgery, with the outcomes improving over time. The scars from the incisions should be well concealed within the natural folds and creases of the eyelid skin. They can also be covered up with cosmetics if needed.
